Cairo Photo Week: Photopia to Debut New Photography Festival in the Heart of Downtown Cairo

Essentially a cultural landmark in Heliopolis these days, Photopia Cairo has long been the hub for photography fanatics, offering courses, seminars, exhibitions and more to Cairenes. While their events have been among some of the most unique of their kind, Cairo Photo Week is taking things up several notches.

Set to take place between Thursday 22nd to Friday 30th of November, organisers are inviting one and all to “Tell Your Visual Story’’ - the theme of the nine-day festival. Catering to all levels of experience and ages - even kids - because they're never too young.

Taking place at Dakhli West El Balad's many locations in the heart of Downtown Cairo, the festival is dedicated to the image industry in Egypt and in the region, with established international photographers, videographers, and the who’s who of the industry offering workshops, talks, and panel discussions that are sure to level up your photography game.

In collaboration with Al Ismaelia For Real Estate, the festival is catered to photographers in all fields, visual storytellers and researchers, photo editors, retouchers, videographers, filmmakers, art directors, fashion directors, food stylists, fashion stylists, CGI artists, fashion designers, food stylists, fashion stylists, CGI artists, fashion designers, make-up artists and all image makers.

Photopia is a photography school in Cairo offering courses, workshops, talks and master classes, offering technical advice to photographers of all levels. It is also a store and gift shop, a gallery and a co-working space.

One very interesting aspect of the festival is the portfolio reviews, where up-and-coming photographers can get some tips from more experienced photographers regarding how a portfolio should really look, and if you should just give up photography already and get back to your day job. Hopefully not. If you don’t think your portfolio needs any more help, you might be more suited to the classes and workshops, with a diverse range of subjects such as a class on Fashion Photography, a workshop on Storytelling for the Everyday Storyteller, and much much more.
