A misdemeanour court in Luxor has penalised a carriage driver on charges of animal abuse, after a video of him beating his horse on Luxor’s Al-Madina Street went viral on social media. The man has been sentenced to one year in prison, with a bail of EGP 500.
The Penal Code specified in Article No. 355 states the penalty for anyone who intentionally maims or kills cattle such as cows, sheep or oxen, or working animals such as donkeys, horses or camels will face a fine of no less than EGP 200 and will face imprisonment for a year.
