Egypt's Stellar Salah Named as Finalist for African Footballer of the Year
Arsenal's Elneny is out, but AS Roma's Mohamed Salah remains in, as the Confederation of African Football names its five finalist for African Footballer of the Year.
Egyptian football fans have plenty to be excited about as Egypt and AS Roma's winger, Mohamed Salah, has been shortlisted as one of the five finalists for the African Player of the Year award.
The Confederation of African Football revealed on Tuesday that this year’s five finalists are Gabon’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Algeria’s Islam Slimani, Senegal’s Sadio Mane, Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez, and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah.
Since joining with Roma in summer 2015, Salah has scored 15 goals in all competitions last season. This year he has managed to score eight goals in 13 league games and recently managed to help Egypt exact revenge against Ghana, scoring a penalty shot in Egypt’s 2-1 victory during 2018 World Cup Qualifiers. Sadly, Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny and the Zamalek trio of Bassem Morsi, Ayman Hefni, and Ali Gabr made it on the long list of players under consideration but failed to become finalists.
The 2016 Glo-CAF Awards ceremony is set to take place in Abuja, Nigeria on the 5th of January, 2017.
