First Made-in-Egypt Electric Car Will Hit the Streets in 2024

The first made-in-Egypt electric car will be available for purchase in early 2024.

The car is developed by local car manufacturer EgyptSat Auto and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology in Cairo, and will come in two models, each of which will offer a range of up to 200 kilometres on a single charge. Prices will range from EGP 100,000 to EGP 150,000.

The road to Egypt’s first domestically manufactured electric vehicle has had a few false starts over the past few years. Nasr Automotive planned to produce the Nasr E70 in collaboration with China’s Dongfeng Motor Co. in 2022, although the MoU had not been renewed that year.

In February 2023, the Arab Academy of Scientific Research and Technology announced that it has since taken the lead to manufacture Egypt’s first commercially-available electric car. Their first product had already been demonstrated at the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh in November 2022.
