Former Egyptian Champion Wins Gold for Bulgaria at European Wrestling Championship
Refusing to give up on his dreams, Tarek Abdel-Salam becomes a Bulgarian citizen and wins gold at the European Wrestling Championship after being rejected by the Egyptian Wrestling Union because of an injury.
Egyptian wrestler Mohamed Tarek Abdel-Salam, who has been naturalised as a Bulgarian citizen last January, just won the European Wrestling Championship's gold medal for Bulgaria after defeating Russia's wrestler and world champion Chingiz Labazanov in Novi Sad, Serbia, according to a report by Bulgarian National Radio.
The Egyptian player immigrated to Bulgaria last year and got a job in a shawarma shop after he was disregarded by the Egyptian Wrestling Union after he got injured in a training camp for the Egyptian National Wrestling Team, after which he took the decision to leave the country.
Abdel-Salam had previously won several medals for Egypt, last of which being gold at the African Wrestling Championship and Silver in the Mediterranean Wrestling Tournament.
