Mohamed Hamza Wins Fencing Gold at the 2020 Junior Epee World Cup in France

On Sunday, Egyptian fencer Mohamed Hamza struck gold winning the 2020 Junior Epee World Cup in Aix-en-Provence, France.

Hamza’s path to winning gold left wasn’t easy as the Egyptian champion had to strike down a slew of fierce competitors from all over the world. Taking to Facebook to celebrate the win, Hamza thanked his family, coach, teammates, The Egyptian Arms Federation and the president of the union Abdel-Moneim Al-Husseini.

The young 19-year-old is definitely a superstar to watch as he is now ranked first in the world. The three-time junior African champion has been tearing up competitors in the past having won multiple silver and bronze medals at Cadet (U-17) and as a Junior (U-20). In 2019, he managed to win the silver medal at the Junior Epee World Cup in Italy in 2019 and the bronze medal at the Junior Epee World Cup in Poland. It was the latter victories that landed him the number one ranking in the world.

If you are looking to see this star in action you may not have to wait too long, as the International Fencing Federation announced on Sunday that Egypt will be the host of the Senior Fencing World Championship 2021.
