New Trailer Released for Upcoming Egyptian Drama ‘The Atheist’
We spoke with the trailer’s editor, Mark's Erian, about the challenging and sensitive topics that this film touches on.
A new trailer for the upcoming Egyptian film, ‘The Atheist’, has just been released, and we were able to get some insight on the film’s vision from none other than the trailer’s editor, Markos Erian.
“The topic of atheism is very sensitive in our region, so an equilibrium had to be struck between showing the film’s artistic prowess whilst not being too provocative for the audience,” Erian tells CairoScene. “‘The Atheist’ highlights the correlation between religious extremism and atheism, and it is essential that as a society we tackle our internal debates openly.”
‘The Atheist’, written by Ibrahim Eissa, directed by Mohamed El-Adl, and starring Ahmed Hatem in the title role, was originally slated for release in 2022, and is now due to premiere in mid-August 2024.
