Considered one of the holiest Islamic sites in Egypt, Al-Hussein Mosque is due to receive a EGP 150 million renovation, as part of a larger project to preserve and develop the Ahl al-Bayt mosques and shrines across Egypt. The renovation was agreed upon after the governorate of Cairo and the Masajid Foundation signed a protocol, which will see the mosque, its outer courtyard and the area surrounding the mosque receive upgrades to its electrical, water and sewage systems, as well as its air conditioning, surveillance cameras and fire alarms.
