Saudi Arabia Bans Midday Work Under the Sun Until September

The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development is taking proactive steps to safeguard the well-being of workers in the private sector during the scorching summer months. Effective from Saturday, June 15th, a ban on working outdoors under direct sunlight between 12 noon and 3 pm will be strictly enforced until September 15th, 2024.

This annual measure underscores the Ministry's commitment to providing a healthy and safe work environment for all employees. Exposure to the harsh midday sun can lead to heat stress, dehydration, and other health complications. The designated break period allows workers to seek refuge from the heat, preventing potential health risks and promoting overall well-being.

Employers are urged to adjust work schedules in accordance with the midday break directive. The Ministry has also published a "Procedural Guide for Occupational Safety and Health to Prevent the Effects of Exposure to Sunlight and Heat Stress" on its website, offering valuable resources and guidelines for businesses.

Last year, the Ministry recorded a 95% compliance rate with the midday break regulation, highlighting the growing awareness and commitment to worker safety within the Kingdom's private sector.
