Zawya Cinema Announces Upcoming Maqamāt Programme
This month’s edition, entitled ‘Being Borrowed: An Afterlife’, focuses on Egyptian migration to the Gulf.
Downtown Cairo’s Zawya Cinema have announced the details for its upcoming edition of Maqamāt, a cinematic effort to screen short films.
This month’s edition, entitled ‘Being Borrowed: An Afterlife’, is a collaboration between A Kiss in the Desert and Anthropology Bel3araby that focuses on Egyptian migration to the Gulf. Employing anthropology, documentary and creative writing, the programme uses VHS family recordings to create seven short films.
The films to be screened include ‘A Friend, No Longer Here’ by Ahmed El Shabrawi, ‘Half Asleep in Two Beds’ by Reem Moustafa, ‘A Sacrificed Memory’ by Aya Tariq, ‘After the Show’ by Youssra El Hawary, ‘Stroll Down the Memory Lane’ by Tasneem Mousallam, ‘13 Years and Counting’ by Nouran Debaan and ‘Like a Fairytale’ by Dina El Hawary.
The short films will be screened on September 16th at 7 PM, with each film having both English and Arabic subtitles.
