UAE to Build First Man-Made Island Devoted to Partying

Some people like adventure holidays, trekking in the mountains or diving. Some people like relaxing holidays, laid out on the beach with a book. Some people like holidays where they go out and get shit faced every night at a nightclub. The UAE is building a whole island catered to the latter.

'Dream Island' situated in Ras Al Khaimah, which is only a 40-minute drive from Dubai, it will be able to host 20,000 party travellers at a time with five hotels set to be built. There'll be two mega clubs, four beach clubs and 100 restaurants to choose from if you can get past the constant hangover sickness to actually eat something.

The UAE is already brimming with nightlife options but the hope is Dream Island will be able to rival Ibiza as the world's party central. "People will be able to come here, stay in the hotel party at clubs on the beach, anything in the world you can do. And we are trying to attract festivals to come here - like Burning Man," said Sales and Marketing director George Saad.

And 'anything' includes being able to drink, and purchase alcohol legally without having a personal licence; a necessity for tourists and residents in the Emirates. Does that mean the stringent rule on narcotics will be put aside on Dream Island? Only time will tell, but if it were to rival Ibiza then drug culture cannot be ignored.

The 4 million square foot clubber's paradise will feature no homes and will only be open to visitors and residents of the neighbouring islands and is expect to be finished by 2018.
