Leading up to the United Nations’ 27th Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP27), host city Sharm El Sheikh is rapidly becoming greener than ever.

Part of the preparations will include the implementation of a series of measures to bring Sharm El Sheikh’s hospitality industry to global environmental standards. This will include Sharm’ El Sheikh’s hotels, restaurants, touristic facilities, diving centres and eco-hostels, all of which will have six months to apply these changes. Establishments that adapt their practises to meet the new standards will obtain a green certificate from one of the approved international or local bodies.

There’s also a place to swap all the licensed tourist vehicles with ones that are powered by renewable, clean energy. Sharm El Sheikh is hoped to serve as a model for green cities across Egypt.
