Egypt to Build its Biggest Date Plantation with 2.5 Million Palm Trees

Egypt is currently working towards building the biggest date plantation in the country, which is said will house some 2.5 million palm trees, according to Egypt Today. 

Exporting dates to 42 countries, Egypt is the world’s largest date producer, with production making up around 18 percent of the global dates production and 23 percent of the Arab dates production.

Former Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade Tarek Kabil revealed that Egypt exported 70 percent more dates in the beginning of 2018 which amounts to 30,000 tons worth EGP 29.4 million. 

The announcement was made by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Saturday at the inauguration of The National Greenhouses Project in 10 Ramadan, which will see over 100,000 greenhouses built to promote off-season crop production, as well as provide job opportunities and enhance the quality of exported products.
