Film My Design Festival Launches Workshop Programme for Aspiring Creators

The creative industry in Egypt is awakening and going full throttle. But like… with seat belts on. (Please wear masks and keep distancing ya’ll. They said restrictions are eased not SCRAPPED).

Cairo-born design and film festival Film My Design (FMD) is launching Emerging Local Talents (ELT), a programme focused on curating workshops to budding designers and filmmakers looking to expand their horizons and get some nuggets of wisdom from seasoned storytellers and designers within the creative industry.

The five-month long programme will help aspiring filmmakers and designers get one-on-one mentorship by veterans in the fields, and is put together by Egyptian filmmaker Karim Shaaban and Amr Orensa, Design Manager at Pinocchio Furniture who will be taking on the mentor role for participating designers and filmmakers throughout the programme’s run from September 2020 to January 2021.

“Applications are open to emerging designers and filmmakers, including undergraduates, fresh graduates, individuals, collectives and studios," said Israa Mahmoud Ibrahim, Co-Founder of Film My Design. "We invite all aspiring creatives, who come from Egypt’s rich creative landscape, to apply to the ELT program. This includes designers who are engaged in fields like architecture, installation, interior, lighting, furniture, graphic, jewellery, and fashion design, and filmmakers who are interested in independent productions, short films, documentaries, animations, feature films and more!”

In addition to the workshops, the ELT programme will also host roundtable discussions, talks and critique sessions led by prominent speakers, programme curators and industry experts. The sessions are meant to serve as a holistic film platform for those looking to learn the craft, including concept development, shooting, editing, post-production, editing, colour grading and sound design.
