‘Journey to Mecca’ Documentary Makes Its Debut in Riyadh

Having been shown around the world since 2009, ‘Journey to Mecca: In the Footsteps of Ibn Battuta’ - a dramatic documentary that was partly filmed in Saudi Arabia - finally made its Riyadh premiere at Almakan Mall. The documentary is an in-depth look at the life and travels of the Moroccan scholar as he made his pilgrimage to Mecca.

The award-winning documentary was created under the supervision of King Faisal Public Library (KAPL), and King Faisal Centre for Islamic Studies and Research, with the cooperation from multiple government agencies in the kingdom. ‘Journey To Mecca’ was shot in several locations in Saudi including multiple holy sites while part of it was filmed in Morocco. The documentary was produced with unique techniques to capture Hajj rituals.

Although the film was shown in film festivals across the globe, this was the first time it was shown in cinemas within the Kingdom’s capital.
