Netflix Partners With AFAC to Train Arab Female Creatives

Netflix and the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) is launching a new training programme for Arab women in filmmaking this November. The programme will be open to 45 selected candidates from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait and the UAE, and will feature three days of workshops in Cairo, Jeddah and Dubai, as well as a trip to Netflix’s production hub in Europe.

“At Netflix, we are passionate about amplifying women’s voices behind the camera,” Nuha el Tayeb, Netflix’s regional Content Director, tells CairoScene. “Through this partnership, we are discovering a wealth of promising Arab talent and working to ensure that women are represented both on and off camera.”

AFAC is a collective of Arab creative personalities founded in 2007. Committed to achieving gender parity in the arts, this programme reflects the organisation’s ethos of challenging the status quo.

“This renewed partnership with Netflix builds on that commitment, extending our technical support to emerging women talents and allowing for a deeper understanding of the inequities and inequalities that women are subjected to in the film industry,” Rima Mismar, Executive Director of AFAC, says.

Applications are open until September 8th for all women aged 21 to 27.
