Red Sea International Film Festival Restores Two Egyptian Classics

The third edition of Saudi’s Red Sea International Film Festival (Red Sea IFF) will be screening newly-restored versions of two Egyptian classics: ‘A’afreet Merati’ (1968), starring Shadya and Salah Zu Al Fakkar and directed by Fatin Abdelwahab, and ‘Intisar Al-Shabab’ (1941), starring Asmahan and Farid Al-Atrash and directed by Ahmed Badrakhan.

Taking place at Jeddah from November 30th to December 9th, Red Sea IFF has been working on restoring the two films in collaboration with Egyptian Media Production City. The effort is part of the festival’s ‘Red Sea: Treasures’ programme, which aims to preserve film heritage by highlighting cinematic masterpieces from across the globe.

Alongside the two films, ‘Red Sea: Treasures’ will also feature ‘Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul’ (2005, Turkey), musical comedy ‘Les Demoiselles de Rochefort’ (1967, France), ‘City of God’ (2002, Brazil), ‘Lost in La Mancha’ (2002, United Kingdom) and ‘He Dreams of Giants’ (2009, United Kingdom).
