An opera about the life of Tutankhamun, written by famed Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass, will premiere in Luxor on November 5th. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tut’s tomb, the opera will run for five days in front of the Temple of Hatshepsut - a larger than life setting if there ever was one.

Depicting Tutankhamun’s childhood during an epic conflict between Egypt’s pharaohs and Kushite invaders, the opera was originally written by Hawass in English and has been translated into Italian. The production’s score was crafted by an Italian composer, and the cast and orchestra will include artists from both Italy and Egypt.

After the premiere, a dinner party will take place alongside a global conference to commemorate the century-old discovery of King Tut’s tomb. The opera’s score is also scheduled to be showcased at the Cairo Opera House as well as the Grand Egyptian Museum once it opens.
