The American University in Cairo has just been ranked the world's 365th best university and the 2nd in the MENA region. The annual ranking is released by QS World University Rankings and was announced via AUC Egypt's website last week.

The reputable ranking agency annually evaluates the top 3-5 percent of higher education institutions (around 900 universities globally) using indicators such academic peer reviews, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, faculty/student ratio and employer reputation.

“There are a lot of universities in the world; to be in the 300 band is extraordinary,” said Ted Purinton, dean of the Graduate School of Education at AUC and an expert in international education.

According to Purinton, ranked lower than AUC are the University of Milan, the American University in Washington, D.C. and Florida State, all of which are top universities.

AUC came second in the MENA region to the American University in Beirut, which was ranked 228th on the overall list. They were however ranked ahead of other prominent MENA universities such as the American universities in Sharjah and Dubai.
