Egypt to Establish EUR 100 Million Produce Trade Hub in Alexandria

In cooperation with French produce logistics company Rungis International, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade will establish a specialised zone to manage the circulation of vegetables, fruits, meat and all other such commodities in Alexandria’s Borg El Arab. The zone will be 119 acres large, with investments of up to EUR 100 million.

The cooperation will include procedures for digital transformation in Egypt’s internal trade system and streamline globalisation across fields, linking merchants and outlets to each other more efficiently. The export of produce has long been a key factor in the health of Egypt's economy and, over the last few years, there has been an increase in demand from global markets for onions, sweet potatoes, grapes and oranges.
