Global Terrorism Index Places Egypt 13th in the World

Once again, the annual Global Terrorism Index has been released and, as one could expect, Egypt ranks high on yet another terrible ranking study. This year, Egypt ranks the 13th in the world for countries most affected by terrorism.

The study suggests that between 2004 and 2014, Egypt ranked once in the world’s top 10. However, before believing that the 13th ranking is an improvement, the report explains that “Terrorism continues to rise. Attacks were recorded in 93 countries, up from 88 in 2013, and the total number of deaths from terrorism in 2014 reached 32,685, constituting an 80 per cent increase from 18,111 the previous year.” The report also specifically mentions that Egypt suffered three attacks at the hands of ISIS.

Topping the list is Iraq, which should come as a surprise to no one.
