945 Bridges Were Built in Egypt Over the Last 10 Years

Since 2014, the Ministry of Transport has invested EGP 132 billion into building 945 bridges and tunnels across Egypt, with the aim of replacing surface intersections on roads and road-rail crossings, limiting traffic congestion, preventing accidents and enhancing overall safety on the road.

The current round of construction looks to expand the national network to 2,500 bridges and tunnels at a cost of EGP 140 billion. Overall, the National Roads Project seeks to construct 7,000 km of new roads nationwide at EGP 175 billion, whilst upgrading 10,000 km of the existing roads at EGP 130 billion.

Additionally, in efforts to connect the East and West Nile roads, reducing inter-axis distances to 25 km, the ministry will construct 35 new Nile Axes roads, increasing the total number of bridges on the Nile river to 73. At the moment, 18 axis roads have been constructed since 2014, adding up to 56 existing axis roads across the Nile.
