Egypt’s First Dry Port Launches Pilot Operations in 6th of October

The dry port won the IJ Global Transport Deal of the Year for the Middle East region in 2021 for contributing to the green agenda.

The first dry port in Egypt - located in 6th of October city - has officially launched pilot operations.

Spanning 4,500 square meters and with a capacity of  720,000 per year, the dry port will kickstart 500 direct job opportunities and 2,000 indirect job opportunities. 14 additional dry and logistics ports across Egypt are expected to launch soon. 

The project is a collaboration between Egypt’s General Authority for Land and Dry Ports, Elsewedy Electric, and German DB Schenker, a subsidiary of rail operations company Deutsche Bahn. The dry port is also funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, contributing to Egypt’s overall network of under-construction dry and logistics with a capacity of 5 million storage containers per year.

The dry port won the  IJ Global Transport Deal of the Year for the Middle East region in 2021 for contributing to renewable energy standards in the region.
