Facelook

A UAE-based salon has come under attack from Facebook for alleged copyright infringement. We just hope they don't come to Egypt...

Facelook

There’s a small hairdresser in Dubai called Facelook. Great name for a hairdresser… Your hair is on your face…You want your face to look good with your hair on it... Facelook! It makes perfect sense but, believe it or not, Facebook might be suing them. Taking some time off from collecting the world's information and slowly becoming a global superpower, Facebook are investigating whether this salon has breached its intellectual property rights by giving itself a similar name. A Facebook spokesperson for the Middle East speaking to Abu Dhabi-based newspaper The National said “We are careful to protect the Facebook brand and we will be looking more closely at this particular case.”

Meanwhile, in typical Arab logic, the salons owner denied any affiliation or resemblance to Facebook’s logo: “We’ve registered this name and even the brand under UAE labour law. We haven’t had any issues. For a normal guy, with a naked eye, it looks familiar. However, the color and the font is different to Facebook.”

Let’s just hope no one from Facebook visits Egypt anytime soon…
