First-Ever WE League Cup Tournament to Kick Off This January

The WE League Cup will feature all 18 Egyptian Premier League clubs, who will compete for the EGP 1.5 million grand prize.

The first edition of the WE League Cup - Egypt's third domestic trophy for professional football - is due to kick off on January 12th until the end of the month, overlapping with this year's African Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is scheduled between January 6th to February 6th.

The WE League Cup will feature all 18 Egyptian Premier League clubs, placed in three groups of six teams each. The teams are competing for a EGP 1.5 million grand prize, while runners up will receive EGP 1 million and EGP 500 thousand for second and third place, respectively. All other teams will return home with a EGP 100 thousand prize.

The group draw took place early in January, 2022, resulting in generally well balanced groups, with Egyptian Premier League champions Zamalek in Group C, while CAF Champions League victors Al Ahly SC will compete in Group B.
