Gouna Wins Green Award

We already know that Gouna is probably the cleanest, best-preserved place in all of Egypt but every now and again it’s good to get a reminder that the eco-resort is doing everything in its efforts to remain environmentally friendly. During this year’s Global Forum on Human Settlements which took place in Colombia, Gouna received the coveted Green City Award thanks to the fact that the resort achieved the fabled carbon-neutral equilibrium – the first city of its kind in the Middle East and Africa.

This is not the first time Gouna has been awarded for its services to the environment. In 2010, it received an award from Green Globes thanks to their green initiative (where else in Egypt have you seen a recycling bin or three?), environmentally-friendly activities and energy efficient hotels. This might be one small step for Gouna, but it’s a giant leap for Egypt.
