Melania Trump Allegedly Paid Hotel Fees Close to EGP 2 Million During Her 6-Hour Stay in Cairo

How is that even possible?

Staff Writer

First Lady Melania Trump’s stay a the Semiramis Intercontinental allegedly cost $95,000 of U.S. taxpayer money, according to federal records. Trump had booked the presidential suite at the Semiramis for $699, including $156 in taxes, according to the hotel’s website. It's unclear how Trump racked up such a staggering bill, but it's been claimed that the rest of the sum went towards accomodation for her entourage.

The FLOTUS was in Cairo for the last stop of her African goodwill tour, after touring Ghana, Malawi, and Kenya. Stephanie Grisham, the first lady’s communications director, told Quartz that Trump didn’t even spend a night at the hotel and was only in Cairo for six hours.

Grisham was furious about initial coverage of the situation, calling it “irresponsible journalism”; the initial coverage being that she spent the night. This somehow was supposed to be more understandable than the reporting that $95k was spent on an overnight stay.
