Ministry of Communications Announces Cyber Skills Program

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced a new cyber skills initiative, aiming to train 1,000 university students a year and qualifying them for direct employment in the cybersecurity field upon graduation.

The initiative will be implemented during the university study period in collaboration with governmental, academic, and private sector entities, integrating practical coursework with hands-on training in university labs and training centres affiliated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Dr. Talaat emphasised Egypt's commitment to creating a secure digital environment and building a competitive digital economy, noting that the increasing reliance on digital systems is met with a rise in cyber threats and attacks, with global costs of cybercrime estimated at around USD 8.4 trillion in 2022, expected to exceed USD 20 trillion by 2026. Egypt ranks 23rd out of 182 countries in the Cybersecurity Index for 2021, and is working to enhance this field through the establishment of the Supreme Cybersecurity Council and the National Center for Computer and Network Emergency Readiness, in addition to launching a national cybersecurity strategy for the 2023-2027 period.
