Nazi Fried Chicken

"Nazi chic..." Two words I never thought in my life would ever be put together, and yet, there they are. Apparently, in Thailand, this is what is in this season, and every other season for that matter, and they can't seem to get enough of it. There seems to be no real reason why it has become such a craze, but it definitely is. How bad is it? Well, in 2011, in the northern city of Chiang Mai, a group of high school students actually showed up to school in homemade Nazi uniforms, complete with swastika armbands and toy guns. Leading them was a teenage girl dressed head to toe in a faux SS uniform, complete with a fake Hitler moustache. Oddly enough, this isn't the first incident where this happened. In 2007, hundreds of students at a Bangkok school staged a Nazi-themed costume parade. Following international outcry, teachers from the school had to apologise and claimed they had no idea that hundreds of students planned to dress up as Nazis for their parade.

One thing I have learnt is that the first people that try to capitalise on young trends is business and Thailand is no exception. A variety of stores are now stacking Nazi apparel. Best sellers are Ronald-McDonald-made-to-look-like-Hitler shirts, as well as Teletubby Hitler.
