Negotiations for Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Before Ramadan Underway
The ceasefire will only be temporary.
US President Joe Biden has hinted at the possibility of a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas during the month of Ramadan. This potential agreement could involve the exchange of dozens of hostages held in Gaza for several hundred Palestinian detainees, according to France24.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasised that while a truce deal may delay a ground invasion of Rafah in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, it would not eliminate the possibility altogether. Netanyahu believes that such an invasion is necessary to achieve what he called a "total victory" over Hamas.
The toll of the ongoing aggression, according to the health ministry in Gaza, has claimed the lives of at least 29,878 people and injured 70,215. Two-thirds of the casualties are children and women.
