Netflix, NEOM & Sard Launch Programme For Female Filmmakers Over 21
The online training will be followed by an eight-day in-person interview series at the Red Sea International Film Festival.
Netflix, NEOM and Sard Media Network have announced a collaborative new opportunity for promising female filmmakers or screenwriters in the Kingdom. The ‘Saudi Arabia’s Female Filmmakers of the Future’ programme aims to discover new talent, and help them hone their artistic skills, encourage their creativity, and teach them about the essential pillars of cinema.
Headed by Egyptian screenwriter Mariam Naoum, applications for the program are open to all hopefuls over the age of 21, and registration will close on August 10th. The programme is focussed on production, directing and screenwriting.
Only 15 Saudi women will be accepted for the intensive 13-week programme, which will include a 12-week online training course starting in September, under the supervision of industry professionals. The online training will be followed by an eight-day in-person interview series at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah this December.
Intended to help candidates from outside major urban centres get discovered, the programme is fully funded given that participants show full commitment to their studies. All accommodation, travel and meal expenses will be covered for the duration of time spent in Jeddah.
