Poaching on Egyptian Lakes Can Net You a EGP 1 Million Fine

The Egyptian government has established the Law for the Protection and Development of Lakes and Fisheries to preserve the nation’s fisheries and set tighter controls, in order to allow the country to benefit from them without harming the environment. 

According to the legislation, fishing boats and fishermen must be licensed and registered, and are obligated to carry safety devices on the vessels. The legislation also outlines fishing fees, cases of exemption from said fees, and cases that call for a withdrawal of licenses.

Violations of these guidelines can result in a fine between EGP 100,000 and EGP 1 million, and a prison sentence between one to three years.
