SCZONE Secures USD 64 Billion for Green Hydrogen Development

The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has secured USD 64 billion in green hydrogen investments through 12 framework agreements. The agreements are expected to produce 18 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually, with an additional USD 7.5 billion project under development to generate 1.3 million tonnes yearly.

SCZONE spans 455 square kilometres, encompassing four industrial areas and six ports. It employs 100,000 people and plays a key role in global trade, handling 12% of international commerce. Efforts to localise green hydrogen production include a proposed production complex, supporting infrastructure, and plans to manufacture electrolysers, wind turbines and solar panels locally.

Additional investments target electric vehicles, pharmaceuticals and building materials. SCZONE is also advancing logistical projects, including a desalination plant and a logistics corridor in Sokhna, slated for completion by 2026.
