Submarine Internet Cable Built Between Egypt & Greece

Egyptian telecommunications company Telecom Egypt and Greek telecommunications company Grid Telecom are constructing a new submarine communications cable between Egypt’s coastal governorate of Port Said and the Greek island of Crete.

The partnership is set to improve Egypt’s presence as a regional communications hub, as this cable is also laid over one of the shortest paths of data transmission to the Balkan nations in Eastern Europe.

Earlier in 2022, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding to establish fibre optic cables across the Mediterranean Sea. The partnership is also set to expand both companies' contact points, reaching 140 in more than 60 countries.
