Tanta University will allocate a children’s hospital dedicated to treating cancer, following the shutdown of the Tanta Branch of the Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357 in September. The university hospital will permanently take in many of the patients that had been affected by the closure of the 57357 branch, which had to discontinue its services after a drastic drop in donations.

The plan was approved by the Egyptian cabinet, and is part of a national strategy to utilise university hospitals across the country. Egyptian university hospitals treated more than 1.5 million patients in 2022 and doubled their capacity to 3000 beds.

Recently the Ministry of Social Solidarity allocated EGP 75 million to 57357’s Cairo headquarters to mitigate their financial difficulties.
