Tourists Can Visit The Pyramids on 1-Day Trips Via The New Sphinx International Airport By Summer

The airport lies on the 45th KM of Cairo Alexandria Desert Road.

Nearly a year after the Egyptian government announced kicking off construction on two new airports on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt's Minister of Aviation Sherif Fathy announced on Saturday that Sphinx International Airport, which lies on the 45th KM of the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, will start operating by next summer, El Ahram reports.Costing around EGP 300 million, Sphinx International Airport will be opening with a capacity of 300 passengers per hour, with the main purpose of serving tourists seeking to stop in Cairo for one-day visits to the Pyramids of Giza and the soon-to-be-inaugurated The Grand Egyptian Museum, which is set to open before summer. The airport will also service charter flights, which are not currently allowed to land in Cairo International Airport.

Furthermore, Fathy revealed that the airport will see future expansions in terms of capacity as well as introducing cargo services in the near future, according to Al Ahram.
