US President Trump’s First Foreign Trip to Take Place in Saudi Arabia

US President Donald Trump is planning an official visit to Saudi Arabia in mid-May, marking what could be his first foreign trip during his second term in office. The visit, still under discussion, is expected to include a sweeping investment agreement that could see Saudi Arabia commit up to USD 1 trillion in the United States.

The package reportedly includes significant military and defence procurement, along with investments in key US industries such as energy and infrastructure. The trip aims to reinforce bilateral ties amid the Kingdom’s growing role in global economic and diplomatic affairs.

Trump’s return to Riyadh would echo his 2017 visit—his first foreign trip as president during his first time—during which he announced over USD 350 billion in planned Saudi investments in the US economy.

The timing of the visit also follows Saudi Arabia’s recent diplomatic efforts, including hosting indirect peace talks involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States.

While an earlier version of the trip was floated for late April, reports suggest the visit has now been pushed to mid-May as negotiations over the investment deal continue between Saudi and US officials.
