World’s First Certified Green Ammonia Shipped From Egypt

The world’s first certified green ammonia has been shipped by Fertiglobe, a joint venture between the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands, from a plant in Egypt. The ammonia was produced using renewable hydrogen from its pilot Egypt Green Hydrogen electrolyzer, and has been validated with International Sustainability and Carbon Certification.

The shipment will be used by British consumer goods company Unilever in its production of near-zero emissions synthetic soda ash, which is a main component in laundry powder.

The Egypt Green Hydrogen project was launched by Fertiglobe in partnership with Scatec, Orascom Construction, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, and the Sovereign Fund of Egypt.

Once completed, the project will be able to create up to 15,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, serving as feedstock for the production of up to 90,000 tons of renewable ammonia per year at Fertiglobe’s facilities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
