#KoshkKreations: Introducing Om Molto

Finding inspiration at the friendly neighbourhood koshk, Bob Kanady (aka Eihab Boraie) is giving classic desserts an Egyptian twist. This week he uses chocolate-filled Molto to make a mouthwatering bread pudding that we choose to call an Om Molto.

Last week we launched a series called #KoshkKreations with Bob Kanady (aka Eihab Boraie). Seeking inspiration at the koshk we decided to give an Egyptian twist to a beloved global dessert, the deep fried Mars, but we wrapped it in Konafa instead. This week we visited the koshk and were instantly drawn to trying to make something using our beloved chocolate-filled croissants known as Molto.

After scratching our heads, we decided to attempt to make a bread pudding using these chocolaty croissants. For those unfamiliar with bread pudding it is almost exactly like the classic dessert Om Ali, but since Ali is nowhere to be found and the bread has been replaced with Molto, we have decided to call our latest creation Om Molto.

Step 1: Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Step 2: Cut up the 3 Molto croissants into smaller pieces.

Step 3: In a large bowl, whisk 2 eggs, 2/3 cup sugar, 2 cups of milk and ¼ teaspoon of salt.

Step 4: Add cut up croissants into bowl and allow to soak at least 10 minutes (some believe the longer you let it soak the better).

Step 5: Butter the ramekin or dish you plan to serve in, then add the soaked croissants filling ¾ of the dish. (For extra texture you can add nuts to the mixture, but make sure it is in the mixture and not placed on top. The reason for this is that the pudding will rise in the oven, and you want to make sure it has enough room to do so without collapsing or knocking off all its nuts)

Step 6: Leave in 300-degree oven 45 minutes.

Step 7: Let rest for a few minutes, and you will notice it will reduce in height.

Step 8: OPTIONAL - add as scoop of ice-cream to increase the flavourful bliss.

Step 9: Instagram a picture of your dish and make your friends jealous.

Step 10: Step 9 is not optional, and when you post make sure to share it with @CairoScene #KoshkKreations!
