Launched in August 2020, the brand was originally set out to be a platform where founder Monica Mohsen (aka Momo) could sell her art, before she realized she could fill a niche for inexpensive, handmade polymer clay accessories.
If you’re a Pinterest fiend, you might be familiar with the experience of saving a bunch of gorgeous-looking accessories to your seemingly never-ending ‘saved’ collection, in the hopes that you might one day be able to get your hands on something similar. Looking to make those Pinterest-fantasies a reality is new local brand ‘Momo’s Artworks’.
Launched in August 2020, the brand was originally set out to be a platform where founder Monica Mohsen (aka Momo) could sell her art. Upon figuring out that her surrounding community would respond better to accessories instead, she set out instead channel her artistic inclinations in another way by selling 100% handmade and hand-painted polymer clay earrings.
Inspired by different colours that Mohsen comes across in her daily life, the self-taught founder decided to dedicate all of her time to create her unique pieces, tapping into the fact that polymer clay accessories remain a fairly new concept to Egyptian consumers. The brand’s soft, subtle colours and experimentation with shapes are tastefully minimalist, catering to a wide range of tastes.
“I really love and admire other newly-established brands providing polymer clay accessories,” Mohsen tells CairoScene. “But something I couldn’t help but notice is that – more often than not – they’re way too overpriced considering the price of the raw materials required to make them. With ‘Momo’s Artworks’, I’m seeking to create accessories that are affordable, accessible yet stylish, whether you’re looking to customise your own design or choose one of my own.”
Momo’s Artworks’ collection is available on the brand’s Instagram page at @momos_artworks.
