As one of the leading causes of death in the world, cancer has more often than not caused great distress to many families. However, a group of Egyptian cancer sufferers, who are still in the prime stages of their lives as children, did not let their illnesses hold them back as they spent World Cancer Day running and playing the gardens of Manial Palace.

The children spent the day playing with their favourite cartoon characters and participating in activities organised for them by the Children's Cancer Hospital Foundation. A tour of the palace museum took place, with the museum staff using puppets to teach the children about history and the importance of health, according to Al Nahar News. Photos were captured of the children as they ran around the gardens of the palace, created adorable art work, and cuddled with Mickey Mouse.

The festivities were organised by the Ministry of Antiquities along with Resala Charity Organization.

World Cancer Day, which falls on February 4th every year, marks global solidarity with our continuous fight against cancer. About 8.2 million people around the world die every year after battling with cancer, making it one of the leading causes of death worldwide. World Cancer Day serves to create and spread awareness about the disease, as well as keep the profile and symptoms of cancer in the minds of people.

Check out these heartwarming photos captured on the day.
