10 Cultural Festivals To Catch This October

From the 13th annual Cairo Jazz Festival to a plethora of film festival, and every kind of artistic discipline in between, October is perfect for culture vultures in Egypt...

October is shaping up to be cultural extravaganza as not one but a dozen of exciting festivals are scheduled to take place. From poetry to Latin dance, a music expo to film festivals whatever you dig culturally is scheduled to take place this month. In effort to keep you informed with all the cultural happenings taking place this month we decided to compile a list of all the festivals scheduled to make this month a culturally memorable one.

Poetry Festival

 

Starting today and running until the 7th of October is a PoetryFfestival at everyone’s favourite venue under a bridge, El Sawy Culture Wheel. Highlighting the works of legendary poets Beiram, Gahin and Hadad, this festival will be showcasing the power of words and their ability to inspire. “I joined the (1919) revolution my way, I didn’t throw stones, didn’t break lamp posts, but I wrote verses that were more powerful than rocks and even bombs,” Beiram Al-Tounsi said. Afro-Latin Dance Festival

There is no escape quite like losing yourself in the art of the dance. For tourists visiting Egypt it is easy to assume that there is no culture beyond on our ancient history. Cairo Jazz Festival VII

SHNIT International Short Film Festival

Returning for its thirteenth edition, the annual SHNIT festival is taking place across the world starting from October 7th to the October 18th. For the fourth consecutive year, Cairo will be included in the global event hosting screenings between the 8th to the 11th. Happening in a plethora of venues including Room Art Space, Rawabet, Teatro Maadi, Netherlands-Flemish Institute and Cinema Radio, the SHNIT festival is a shared global experience that will have you appreciating the arts, while making the world feel that much smaller.

Alexandria International Song Festival

The Alexandria International Song Festival on October 15th is set to take place at Sayyed Darwish hall at the Alexandrian Opera. Looking to make a huge splash in the city, it has been announced that none other than legendary Lebanese superstar Nancy Ajram will be inaugurating the event. Ticket are said to range between LE200-500 with proceeds being donated to a children’s charity.

Egypt Sensation Latin Dance Festival

Get ready for swinging hip and gravity defying dips as the sexy, sweaty styles of Latin dancing prepare to hit Egypt. Starting from October 15th – 17th this festival will be bringing in dancers from all around the world to a variety of venues who will be leading a series of workshops covering everything from Salsa to the Chachacha. We may not be Germans but we do love beer. From October 7th to 9th, the Cairo Jazz Club will be having a special deal on beer in honour of the beloved German festival. Qabila Film Festival

Looking to highlight the independent filmmaking industry in Egypt, the Qabila Film Festival returns to showcase the power of expression while empowering our young filmmakers at the American University in Cairo.
