Thank you, Chambers of Commerce, for giving us even less reasons to leave our homes.

Paying Bills in Egypt is About to Get a Whole Lot Easier

According to the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce, a newly developed bill payment app designed and implemented by the government will be seeing the light of day within a month. Users will be able to pay all necessary bills, ranging from phones (both land and cellular), water, electricity and whatnot quickly and easily, relying on an ‘online wallet’ of sorts.

Users of the app will only have to go to any of the Khadamaty (My Services) branches scattered all over the country to fill their wallets for future use, eliminating the need for repeated trips to whichever governmental venues or service centers to get your bills sorted out. In a statement to press, Head of Khadamaty and Chief of the Call Centers Division within the Chambers of Commerce, Ehab Saeed, said that the app has already been deployed experimentally, and will be available for use within a month.

Details are scarce, and although this is definitely a step in a positive direction for all involved, we’re wondering how this is going to compete with already easily accessible services such as  Fawry and Bee. Granted, these services depend on you leaving your house, but they don’t necessarily rely on you having an online wallet, nor do they rely on your phone. Only time will tell.
