Egypt to Resume Direct Flights to Red Sea from Milan and Geneva
Welcome, welcome!
Things are slowly but surely coming back to normal on the tourism front in Egypt; a direct flight from Geneva to the Red Sea has been announced for the 2018-2019 season, as well as an EasyJet flight from Milan to Egypt following a three-year suspension of flights to Sharm-El-Sheikh, according to Travel News. This comes in addition to the announcement that Russian charter flights are also expected to resume in October 2018. Flights to Geneva will be available on Saturdays between October 13 and December 15, and on Sundays between December 23 and March 30, and will be operated by the Bombardier-CS300, which accommodates 145 passengers.
Tourism is at its highest since 2010, with Hurghada hotels recording 100% occupancy in the month of June. Tourism revenues are expected to top $9 billion, compared to $7.6 billion for the same period last year. 2.2 million tourists visited Egypt during the first quarter of this year, a 30 percent increase compared to last year.
This summer’s high occupancy rates at the Red Sea can be attributed to the thousands of Egyptians who live in Gulf countries, as well as to an increase in Chinese and European tourists. However, tourism expert Essam Ali attributes this to an improvement in security and to the flotation of the pound.
