Egypt's Population Growth Rate Drops to 1.4%

Egypt's population growth rate has declined from 1.9% in 2019 to 1.4% in 2023, as reported by cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsani. This drop is attributed to the success of official initiatives, particularly the National Project for Development of the Egyptian Family (NPDEF).

The crude birth rate also saw a decrease from 24.6 births per thousand population in 2018 to 19.4 births by the end of 2023. Additionally, the first quarter of this year recorded 491.8 thousand births, a 3.5% decrease from the 509.5 thousand births in the same period of 2023.

Other critical indicators were discussed during the meeting, including the reduction in the crude death rate due to improved healthcare services from initiatives. Family planning and reproductive health services have reached 4.4 million people in remote and deprived areas and 23 million through government service outlets.

The government established 102 family planning clinics with the help of civil society, equipping 13 clinics with new equipment. Nearly 520 thousand women visited these clinics, and 400 thousand used contraceptive methods. Additionally, 79 thousand women benefited from monthly food baskets.
