Indian Hospital Builds A New Facility to Treat 500 KG Egyptian Woman
After her family's failed pleas for her treatment in Egypt had garnered her story international coverage, Iman Abdulati will be treated in a Mumbai hospital that is currently building a facility to receive her in.
The Saifee Hospital in Mumbai, India, is currently building a special facility to receive Iman Abdulati, the Egyptian woman whose struggle with obesity had garnered international attention recently.
According to BBC, the 278-square-metre facility is reported to have cost $293,762, and will include an operation theatre and an intensive care unit. The facility will be ready by the end of the month, in time to receive Abdulati.
Abdulati will be treated by prominent bariatric surgeon Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala and others. Dr. Lakdwala had worked intensively to grant Abdulati's arrival at Mumbai for treatment after the story had gained international coverage.
Due to her weight, Abdulati won't be taking a regular commercial flight, and will be arriving in Mumbai on a chartered plane along with her sister by the end of January.
She will first need to lose weight before being able to have the operation performed. Abdulati suffers thyroid and cardiac issues and will need to remain at the hospital for at least six months, according to the doctor.
A group of Egyptian doctors had recently launched the #EgyptiansAreCapable campaign, claiming that they can guarantee that Abdulati's needed treatment will be performed with logistical assistance from the Egyptian Armed Forces.
