7 Places You Can Learn Music in Cairo

It should come as no shock that Egypt’s educational systems don’t put too much of an emphasis on the arts. However, as the country’s music scene blossoms and innovation begins to return to a place where the Middle East’s musical story all began, more and more young people are picking up instruments, flexing their vocal chords and even producing digitally. We’ve rounded up some of the top places where you can take a music course in Cairo. Click on links for details.

Cairo Music Centre

One of the most prestigious institutions in the country, the Cairo Music Centre (CMC) is the only Egyptian facility that teaches the curriculum and prepares students for the exams by the UK's Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). Thus, they teach all 35 of the instruments in the ABSRM programme, including all the classical brass, wind, percussion and stringed instruments that make up an orchestra. 

Tag'z Music and Art Centre

A family-run business that also teaches art courses, as well as provides studio and jamming space for rent, Tag’z teach guitar, piano, drums, percussion, flute and violin to anyone over the age of nine. They can also source teachers for other instruments upon request.

Legato Egypt Music Centre

One for the kids, Legato aims to educate from a young age. Alongside after-school art lessons and, for some reason, etiquette courses, they teach piano, guitar, violin, drums, flute, saxophone, oud, organ and singing. 

Epic 101 Studios

For the electronically-inclined, Epic 101 Studios have been churning out top producer after top producer on Egypt’s underground scene. Their top of the line facilities and their popular teaching style have made the studio the go to place for those learning how to produce, mix and master.

Sonata Music Center

Claiming to teach students from ages seven to 77, this Maadi-based centre has specialist tutors for guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, violin, flute and the oriental oud and nay.

Vibe for Developing Arts

Best known as a sprawling recording studio, complete with rehearsal and jamming space, Vibe in Dokki also facilitate lessons in drums and guitar for beginners and intermediate level musicians.
