CIFF 2022 to Honour Director Kamla Abouzekri With Faten Hamama Award

Some of her most nominated works include Yom lel-Sittat (2016), Tamantashar Yom (2011) and Wahed-Sefr (2009), the last of which won her Best Director at Cairo National Festival for Egyptian Cinema.

The 44th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), set to take place from November 13th to November 22nd, will honour Egyptian filmmaker, Kamla Abouzekri, with the Faten Hamama Excellency Award in recognition of her prestigious career.


Abouzekri began her journey in 1993 as an assistant director for the film ‘131 Hard Labour’ after graduating from the High Cinema Institute. Some of her most nominated works include Yom lel-Sittat (2016), Tamantashar Yom (2011) and Wahed-Sefr (2009), the last of which won her Best Director under the Horus Award at the Cairo National Festival for Egyptian Cinema. She is also known for several popular TV series including Zaat (2013), B100 Wesh (2020) and Be Tolooa Al Rouh (2022).


The Faten Hamama Excellence Award was established in 2015 and named after renowned actress Faten Hamama, and has previously been awarded to household names in the entertainment industry including Samir Ghanem, Hassan Hosny, Hend Sabry and Mona Zaki.
