Following rave regional and international reviews, Hadi El Bagoury’s 2018 release ‘Al Daif’, or ‘The Guest’, starring Khaled El Sawi, Ahmed Malek, Sherine Reda and Jamila Awad, will come to Netflix next month, December 2020. After a huge success upon its release in the Arab world, the flick was the first-ever Egyptian movie to get officially selected for the 2018 Talinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, where it won an Audience Award and was screened to a full house.
Produced by iProductions, the film went on to be selected for the Arab Film Festival in Rotterdam, and received the Audience Award at Sweden’s Malmo Arab Film Festival. Awad was awarded the title of Best African-Asian actress in the New Vision International Film Festival, and Al Daif received three awards at the 46th edition of the Egyptian Cinema Film Association Festival.
The film tells the riveting story of a young man (Malek) who visits the family of a prominent intellectual (El Sawy), to ask for his daughter’s (Awad) hand in marriage. The subsequent discourse and events that follow are immensely unexpected.
