An extremely rare ancient Umayyad coin has been discovered by the Saudi Heritage Commission at the Halit archaeological site in the Dawadimi province of Riyadh. The coin dates back to the early Islamic era, specifically the year 85 AH in the 7th century.
The ancient coin was discovered during an excavation project in Halit, alongside a mithqal used for measuring prized metals and old Arabic writings. A settlement market featuring adjoining rooms was discovered as well. These findings appear to support the importance of the site, which used to be referred to as Maadan Al Najadi, as a key mining settlement during the Islamic era.
